Cats and Cake 01/26/2012
What am I doing this week? Taking quiet moments to sit and think. A cat in your lap is welcome encouragement to rest a little longer. Baking cakes. Spiderman birthday last Saturday. Wedding cake testing this Saturday. I'm dreaming of buttercream and perfectly flat cake layers. Learning how to stay alert during mid-afternoon slumps. -10 minutes of sun. -A walk -A cup of ginger tea -Conversation with mom -Triscuits with melted cheese Reading. Always reading. Adoring Karen Russel's book of short stories and praying her mad skills will seep in through the contact of my thumbs with her fantabulous collection. Do tell me, what is making your week? CommentsIf only my cat would sit on my lap like that...sigh. He does curl up next to me on the couch, though. I've been spending my week reading about greyhounds - we're on the list to adopt an ex-racing greyhound! And tea is always a part of my week. Every morning. I'm off to the library to pick up Karen Russell's book. Thank you for the recommendation, my dear. I hope that the rest of your week brings you joy.

I hope you like it as much as I do! She's coming to guest-lecture at my MFA program this Spring. I can't wait to meet her. She published her collection in her mid-twenties. SO impressive.

Watching the latest season of Big Love, Homemade Popcorn, and Snuggling on the Couch. First good week in a long time. Baking cakes would be great too. Loving the Spiderman.

Wow! Sounds spectacular. I love homemade popcorn. My parents popped a bowl every night for the first 5 years of their marriage!

Ginger tea sounds fantastic right now. My week is made by the fact that I just finished booking our hotels for Edinburgh and Paris for our very first overseas vacation! It's coming up quickly and I can't wait!

The Spiderman cake looks great! Awesome that you are having a lovely week :) I'm sure your wedding cake will turn out great :) My week is made because I had someone help me out through a difficult situation I've been facing... I'm so grateful for my loved ones!

Satin Ices brand makes the yummiest Buttercream fondant. Fondant has come a long way from that box of Wilton brand.

So much - what do you think of the short stories? So few people write them and I love them and don't know her. I cannot believe that in my advanced age I just discovered Stephen King's On Writing - have you read that? And as for Spiderman - I wish I was a five-year old kid - it's just so much fun. Lucky Jacob. Happy weekend!

I'm going to guess that that frosting is a swiss buttercream (only because that is my favourite).

Beautiful post and beautiful cake. Your writing is always so sincere and lovely Monet. What is making my week? My daughter and my husband, always. Cooking food for friends this past weekend and leftover peanut butter cake balls in my tummy!
