In lieu of another recipe, which I have plenty, don't fear! I decided to post a few pictures from our trip to New York City. Ryan and I leave on Monday, and we have been walking, eating, and laughing our way through this brilliantly confusing and exhilarating city. There were several bakeries I planned on visiting in NYC. Bakeries that I have long heard of and admired. Bakeries that I've attempted to emulate through several of my cookie and cake recipes. You can only imagine my delight when we rounded the corner to come upon Amy's Bread or Magnolia Bakery. I was childish, excited, and determined to take as many pictures as possible.
Beautiful cupcakes
The Magnolia Bakery with my dear friend Lydia
I'm there in the green!
And while Ryan and I don't eat meat, we've been able to enjoy the artisan street vendors who now sell so much more than hot dogs or soft pretzels. Last night we ran into the waffle truck in the East Village, and we were able to sample a fresh Belgian waffle smothered with a butterscotch, nutella-like spread. Ryan, Lydia, and I sat in a small square, sharing our waffles and watching the crowds of people shuffling from restaurant to bar to music venue to home.
They beat Bobby Flay on a waffle throwdown
And after our first bite, we knew why
Ryan and I also went to MOMA last night, where we, along with thousands of other frugal individuals, were able to tour the museum for free (thank you, Target). After a long day of walking, it was wonderful to be able to slowly trickle through various exhibits and halls. A nice break in an otherwise fast-paced day.
Today we are going back to Brooklyn, which of course, Ryan and I already adore. The food yesterday was spectacular, and I'm sure we'll find even more treats in Williamsburg (a small and helplessly hip part of Brooklyn).

Oh how I love the Magnolia Bakery! And the sight of NY pizza makes my heart ache. I'm a Jersey boy and grew up on fantastic pizza. You just can't find slices like that in Boston (btw... if you are looking for good pizza (or any recommendations for that matter) in Boston, just let me know).
