And I couldn't be more proud.
What started out as a way to fill my afternoons became a space in which I could combine my two greatest passions: writing and baking.
Growing up in a family of strong, passionate women, I was surrounded by creativity both in and outside of our home. My mother, my grandmothers, my sisters, and my aunts fill the pages of this blog because their stories and their recipes have become my own.
Often there are traditions tied up with food. But mostly there are simple stories--anecdotes from my own childhood or from the imaginings of my mind. I bake, and I tell stories. It's as simple as that.
As I dealt with questions of life and death (dramatic for anyone, especially a little girl) I turned to a tablet and a pen. Although my body was frail, my imagination was active, vibrant, and I was carried to places where there were no limits for me, where I could run and laugh and play with no fear.
My love of writing has stayed with me as my body has healed. I knew I had found the person to share my life with when Ryan encouraged me to abandon my previous plans and devote myself to what I love most: writing.
Not only does my blog bring a host of recipes and a collection of pictures, but it also brings forth stories from the past and from the fertile ground of my own mind.
Nor am I an established writer.
I'm just one girl, with one blog and a desire to bring warmth into the lives of those around me. If I can offer you a loaf of bread, if I can offer you a story to carry in your pocket throughout the day, if I can bring a smile to face...then I feel like I've done even more than what I hoped. And so thank you for reading. Thank you for embracing these baked goods, these stories and me.
This post is part of a contest I'm participating in at FoodBuzz, a wonderful forum for Food Bloggers around the world. Over 2000 food bloggers are participating in the first round of the competition and the grand prize is 10,000 dollars and a featured column on Foodbuzz. Entries are judged by both Foodbuzz publishers and a round of talented judges. If you would like to vote for me...I, of course, would be tickled. But what I really love is your continued support. Your conversations fill me with joy.
